"I had just returned to Jamaica and wanted to play a role in the development of my country. CB gave me that opportunity. A friend told me that CB was introducing the most modern chicken houses to the country and I said ‘Yes, I’m interested!’. I was one of the first 14 farmers to have been HACCP, GMP, ISO certified to export chickens abroad.

"My father started this farm in 1991 on a much smaller scale, and we’ve grown over the years. He always believed in succession, so I understand the value of building something that lasts for generations. This farm, other than CB’s Hill Run Farm, is the only other farm that has all solid sidewall houses.

"It’s been 3 decades. I returned to Jamaica interested in starting my own business. I was eventually introduced me to Mr. Eaton Barret, and the rest is history. Over the years I was mentored and developed a love for the industry and CB. 

CB helped me to get a grant from the DBJ for water treatment, which gives us the best water quality, and a windrower for better litter management.

This was originally my husband’s dream. He always wanted to own and operate a farm, while I had a career in Finance. He unfortunately passed away three years ago, just before our first baby chick placement. I decided to honour his dream, and over time, it has evolved into my dream as well.
We have five children, three boys and two girls, and I always tell them that this business is our baby. This farm belongs to them, and they are very involved in learning the business from the ground up. I am proud of the work that we put into building this legacy for our children."

"Although my background is in electrical engineering, I’ve always wanted to build something of my own, and this was the perfect opportunity. I want to create something meaningful for my retirement and build generational wealth for my family.

The use of technology is very important when running a sustainable operation. The farm runs on solar energy all day, every day, and we have back up battery systems that we run at nights. We intend to expand on it as the farm expands in the near future. Contract growing is a complex but straightforward process. CB provides the baby chicks, feed and veterinary care, while the growers focus solely on raising the chickens. Once they are fully grown, CB collects them and handles processing at The Nest. From my perspective, the process has been made simple for contract growers."
